High School Graduation Traffic Alert
Most of the 2012 high school graduations being held at the Patriot Center will occur Friday, June 8 through Wednesday June 20. On many of these days, two or three ceremonies will be held. A major effort was made this year similar to the past few years to reduce the traffic impact these graduations will have on and around campus during the work week.
This year, Fairfax County moved the starting times of some of the larger schools in an attempt to avoid rush hour. Other graduations were moved to the weekend. However, please be prepared for heavier traffic and allow more time to drive to and from campus. It is strongly recommended to avoid parking on the south end of campus and instead use the Rappahannock River Parking Deck or the Field House lots to avoid the majority of the graduation parking and traffic. Avoiding Braddock Road and accessing campus via University Drive or Roberts Road is also strongly encouraged.
Below is a list of the dates, ceremony times and expected attendance of the upcoming high school graduations for 2012. Remember that the doors to the Patriot Center open an hour prior to each ceremony. Heavier traffic is expected to begin up to 90 minutes prior to each ceremony. Each ceremony lasts approximately two hours.
