West Campus Parking Lot Changes
Dear West Campus Parking Permit Owner:
Starting next week several changes are taking place around the West Campus parking lot as part of the ongoing Campus Drive construction project. The bus circle where the bus shelter is located will be closing as the construction of the University's new eight court Tennis Complex is beginning. These new tennis courts will be built in the area of the current bus circle and must be completed before several of the existing tennis courts by the RAC can be closed. The new Campus Drive will run through the location of several of the existing tennis courts.
With the closing of the bus circle a new temporary entrance/exit for bus and construction traffic will be built from Rapidan River Road to the West Campus parking lot. This temporary entrance/exit is not for use by permit owners or any other private vehicles. Using this temporary access point may result in the loss of one's parking permit and parking privileges. Parking permit owners and private vehicles must only use Braddock Road to enter and exit the West Campus Parking lot.
The temporary bus/construction entrance/exit should be finished early next week and must be completed before the bus circle is closed. The bus shelter will remain in it's existing location for now and the West Campus shuttle will stop behind the bus shelter to pick up and drop off passengers. The buses will turn around in the West Campus parking lot before exiting the parking lot to head back towards the Field House and east campus.
Along the construction fence on the west side of the West Campus parking lot sixteen-(16) parking spaces will be designated as "no parking" to create a temporary drive aisle for the buses to turn around. The use of these parking spaces is critical to our shuttle service so please pay close attention and do not park in these parking spaces once they are marked as "no parking". Vehicles parked in these "no parking" spaces will be ticketed and towed at the owner's risk and expense.
Shuttle buses not in use will remain parked in the two currently designated gravel rows in the center of the West Campus parking lot. Please continue to not park in this designated bus area, the eight-(8) parking spaces blocked off adjacent to the guard shack and the new sixteen-(16) parking spaces designated for the newly created bus drive aisle.

We are sorry for any inconvenience and on behalf of the Campus Drive construction contractor, Branch Highways, Mason Parking Services and the University we thank you for your continued cooperation with the ongoing changes brought about by the beginning of the new road construction.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Parking Services at parking@gmu.edu or on Twitter or on Facebook. Thank you.
Campus Drive Update-December 2012/January 2013
The Campus Drive project construction will begin the first week in January, with clearing and grubbing in several areas on East Campus. These areas include around the Patriots Village lot, along Ox Road (Route 123), around the RAC, and along Patriot Circle across from the RAC. From January 7 – January 11, 2013 between the hours of 7:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M., Patriot Circle will be completely closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between the traffic circle at Mason Pond Drive and Lot I.
Once clearing and grubbing is complete in these areas, the Route 123 detour will be built to allow for the construction of bridges that will span the new Campus Drive. The detour will carry the existing four lanes of traffic along Route 123 between University Drive and Mason Pond Drive; expect traffic delays along this corridor.
On January 3, 2013, the pedestrian crosswalk across Route 123 halfway between Braddock Road and University Drive will be closed. All pedestrians will need to cross Route 123 at either Braddock Road or University Drive to get back and forth between the East and West Campuses. The Fairfax County bicycle/pedestrian path along the east side of Route 123 will be detoured through campus at Mason Pond Drive, using Patriot Circle to head back toward University Drive.
Starting on January 2, 2013, the north side (the right side) of the Patriots Village lot will close for the remainder of 2013. The south end of the parking lot may close during certain hours because of construction activity.
As the Campus Drive project progresses, there will be lane and parking closures at times along Patriot Circle, Mason Pond Drive, Braddock Road, and Rapidan River Road, and in the West Campus lot. E-mail updates will be sent periodically but check the Building Patriot Pride website (building.gmu.edu) and Parking and Transportation’s Facebook and Twitter pages for updates. Campus Drive from Braddock Road to Patriot Circle is scheduled to open in December 2013, with the project completely finished in July 2014.
