Faculty/Staff 2013-2014 Permits On Sale – August 1
Parking permits for the 2013-2014 school year will go on sale starting on Thursday, August 1, 2013. You must purchase your permit by going online to http://parking.gmu.edu and clicking on “Purchase Your Permit” then logging in using the same username (NetID) and password as your Patriot Pass account. If you are currently paying for your permit through Payroll Deduction, you do not need to do anything to renew your permit for 2013-2014. We will have a limited number of reserved Mason Pond, Shenandoah, Rappahannock River and Founders Hall Parking Deck reserved permits; Lot I, J and R reserved permits; and Arlington General permits available on a first come, first served basis. Parking Deck permits require a one-time refundable deposit of $25 for an access device that will allow you to enter/exit the reserved areas of the parking deck (if you are purchasing the same Parking Deck parking permit from 2013-2014 your current access device will be reactivated). You will need to obtain one of these access devices by visiting the appropriate Parking Services Office (Fairfax office is located next to the Shenandoah Parking Deck and is open Monday - Thursday, 8:30am-7pm and Friday from 8:30am-5pm. Arlington office is located in Room 219 of the Founders Hall Building and is open Monday – Thursday, 10am-7pm and Friday from 9am-5pm).
How do I purchase my parking permit?
If you are eligible for payroll deduction, you will simply need to fill out a Payroll Deduction Permit Application (http://parking.gmu.edu/forms.html) and bring it in to Admas Humenna at the Fairfax Parking Services Office located next to the Shenandoah Parking Deck. All other parking permits will be sold online and mailed directly to the address that you specify at the beginning of the purchasing process. Please note that these permits are not effective until August 8, 2013 for the Fairfax campus. Arlington permits will be valid from the moment of purchase. Upon completing your transaction online, you will be able to print off a temporary permit to place on your dashboard to begin using immediately while you wait for yours to arrive in the mail. These temporary permits may be printed off at any time by logging into your parking account, and going to “View Your Permits,” or by following the link sent to you via email following your transaction. Temporary permits are only valid for up to 10 calendar days from the date of purchase, and are not valid before the permit’s printed effective date. If you do not receive your permit after 10 days, please visit one of our Parking Services Offices located on the Fairfax, Arlington and Prince William campuses to obtain a replacement.
Permit Pre-Sale for Zimride Members
If you register for, or are already a current member of Zimride – Mason’s Ridesharing Carpool Network, you will become eligible to purchase your parking permit before sales start on August 1st. We will send an email out to all Mason Zimride users who registered on or before July 25, 2013 with details on how to purchase your permit early.

Permit Price Changes
The General parking permit and the reserved Lot I parking permits will see a nominal price increase for the 2013-2014 school year. General permits will be priced at $335 per year. Lot I permits will be priced at $500 per year. Reserved Lot J permits will be priced the same as they were last year at $450, and Mason Pond and Shenandoah parking deck permits will also stay the same at $600 per year. The Rappahannock River Parking Deck and Founders Hall Parking Garage will see a price decrease, and will each be priced at $500 for the 2013-2014 school year (down from $600 in 2012-2013). Changes to Lot J:
Due to an increase in demand, Lot J is now a reserved lot. The outer perimeter of Lot J is designated as faculty/staff parking only similar to Lot I. These spaces are marked with signs and have yellow control lines designating each space.
Lot M & P Permits (lower cost option):
Lots M & P, located within the Field House parking lots off of University Drive, will now have their own reduced price parking permit. There will only be a limited number of these permits available. While Lot M & P permits are intended for use by freshmen resident students, we will also set some aside for off-campus students and faculty/staff members as well. These permits will be priced at $195 for the entire year. Lot M & P permits are also valid in all General permit areas from 5PM-11PM, Monday through Friday and all day on weekends. Please note that there will no longer be any shuttle service from the Field House to the East campus.
West Campus & Campus Drive Construction Project:
George Mason University is currently undergoing an exciting and new construction project that will connect Mason’s Fairfax East & West campuses with a road that will cross under Route 123 / Ox Road called Campus Drive. The road is scheduled to open in Spring 2014. As a result of this construction, the West Campus parking lot will be closed for the 2013-2014 school year.
Motorcycles, Mopeds, and Motorized Scooters:
Starting on August 26, 2013, all motorcycles, mopeds and motorized scooters will be required to have a permit displayed when parking on any of George Mason University’s campuses. Motorcycles, mopeds and motorized scooters will no longer be allowed to park at bike racks/shelters. Parking will only be permitted in dedicated motorcycle parking areas with a motorcycle permit, or in a regular vehicle space with a valid parking permit (lockable permit holders can be purchased at the Fairfax Parking Services Office for $25). A dedicated motorcycle/moped/scooter permit can be purchased online for $100/year, or $30 as a supplemental permit when purchased with a regular vehicle permit. If you have a moped or motorized scooter that has not been registered with the DMV (no license plates), then you will need to purchase your permit at the Parking Services Office.
Premium Multi-Deck Reserved Parking Permit:
Faculty/staff members who purchase a parking deck permit, may add access to another parking deck for $200. $150 for access to Rappahannock. Parking deck permit holders on the Fairfax campus that also have offices at the Arlington campus, may also add Founders Hall to their permit for an additional $150. You will need to stop by the Parking Services Office next to the Shenandoah Parking Deck on the Fairfax campus in order to obtain the upgrade for Mason Pond, Shenandoah or Rappahannock River; Founders Hall upgrades must be done at the Arlington campus Parking Services Office. Upgrades permitted based upon availability.
