High School Graduation Traffic Alert

Most of the 2009 high school graduations being held at the Patriot Center will occur Friday, June 12 through Monday June 22. On many of these days, two or three ceremonies will be held. A major effort was made this year to reduce the traffic impact these graduations will have on and around campus during the work week. This year, Fairfax County moved the starting times of some of the larger schools to avoid rush hour as best as possible. Other graduations were moved to the weekend. However, be prepared for heavier traffic and allow more time to drive to and from campus.

Below is a list of the dates and times of the upcoming high school graduations for 2009. Remember that the doors to the Patriot Center open an hour prior to each ceremony. Heavier traffic is expected to begin up to 90 minutes prior to each ceremony. Each ceremony lasts approximately two hours.

On June 18 - 19 and June 22 - 23, freshman orientation sessions are being held, and a transfer orientation will be held on June 15. In order to accommodate the incoming transfers and their families on June 15, Lots G and I will be reserved for orientation parking only. On June 15 faculty and staff should use Lots H and the Patriots Village (PV) Lot. On the other graduation days between June 12 - 22, Lot I will be open to faculty, staff and student permits. The general lots (M, O, P) by the Field House will always be available and are less likely to be crowded.
